OUR MISSION
To provide the healthcare community with training solutions in medical imaging using simulation with virtual reality simulation.
OPPORTUNITIES
The development of portable, hand-carried ultrasound imaging systems is revolutionizing acute care management. Devices weighing less than 20 pounds are now commercially available for less than $100 000, and for as low as $12 000 for the smallest systems. New data demonstrates that ultrasound imaging at the bedside results in a better pattern of care and fewer complications and thus, many medical associations have issued official guidelines recommending its implementation for daily practice in acute care environments. The benefits apply to numerous medical and surgical specialties, in adult and paediatric medicine, and extend far beyond traditional users, namely cardiologists (echocardiography) and radiologists (ultrasonography).
Technological breakthroughs in portable ultrasound imaging systems and the demonstration of their clinical benefits have come faster than the capacity to train non- traditional users. The limiting factor to the widespread use of ultrasonography by the whole medical and paramedical community is training. Penetration of important market segments like emergency departments and intensive care physicians by ultrasound manufacturers is less than 40% and 20%, respectively.
OBJECTIVE
To develop a range of ultrasound simulators to facilitate and improve ultrasound training for medical students, sonographers, residents, fellows, radiologists, cardiologists and non-traditional users, especially anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, and intensive care physicians.
DESCRIPTION
VIMEDIX is an R&D company in the field of advanced medical simulation training, founded in 2007 by a biomedical engineer, a mathematician and two cardiologists. Based in Montreal, its original approach and innovative technology derive from the unique combination of expert software creators, biomedical engineers and physicians involved in teaching and clinical research. VIMEDIX is the only company to have developed a virtual reality, animated transthoracic echocardiography simulator. This breakthrough paves the way to the development of a transesophageal echocardiography simulator. Our technology supports the development of complex pathologies and case scenarios. VIMEDIX products and services will benefit community colleges, universities, medical schools, skills labs, and academic as well as non academic hospitals.
